Why? Because they literally transform a space from something you just walk through to something you love to spend time in. That extension of the inside to outside is huge for so many people, especially given the cooped-up feeling we’ve all struggled with during the pandemic. Environmental psychologists and well-being consultants the world over are constantly telling us that time spent outside is one of the easiest ways to boost our health and happiness. So leaving a client or our guests with a gorgeous space that’s irresistible is a sure-fire way to spread the feel-good feeling!

Of course, just any old deck isn’t going to have the wow factor. A thrown-together, corner-cutting job will not only look awful but will also be money down the drain when it doesn’t last. But how do you know someone is going to do a great job? Speaking from our experience, you want someone who is meticulous with the little things. I was walking on a marina with my husband, Ben, not so long ago when I noticed the screws weren’t aligned. Now, I’m no perfectionist like Ben is, but this bugged me so bad! Did the person who put the deck together care so little that they couldn’t be bothered to check that? I’ve watched Ben cobbling together all sorts of tools to ensure accuracy when he is building. It’s the little details that ensure quality!

So if you do trust someone to come and build your deck for you, be sure to check that they are meticulous in what they do. Don’t be afraid to ask questions you know they really should know the answers to. Like, what do you do to prolong the life of the wood?  We use a special tape between the wood on top and the wood underneath, and you should expect your chosen contractor to, too. With everything completed professionally, you’ll be able to enjoy a deck like this one!
